A DAY OF FISHING ON THE FOXY LADY
North Shore, Island of Oahu

Upon arrival to the boat you will be greeted by Captain Jesse Lovett and your deckhand for the day. You will immediately notice that the boat is clean and well kept, the cabin has been remodeled to make their guests more comfortable at sea. Everything you will need for an enjoyable day of offshore fishing is on board and in good working order. After your food and gear is stowed and you have been briefed about the boats safety features, it’s off to the fishing grounds in the light of a beautiful Hawaiian-style sunrise. Within minutes of leaving the harbor, the deckhand will have a trolling pattern set up with lures running behind the boat.

Once everything is set the deckhand will get you familiar with how the rods and reels work and what to do when a fish hits a line. Remember that fishing is fun so don’t be shy, ASK QUESTIONS! Some of the best catches have been made by people who have never fished a day in their lives.

Your day will be spent trolling over the underwater peaks and valleys that surround the island. Some of the most productive spots are between 10 and 25 miles from shore. From the moment you leave, until the last line is reeled in at the end of the day Jesse and crew are constantly scanning the ocean for signs of life. Birds, currents and debris are all indicators that there could be fish in the area. It may take a little while to reach the areas where the fish have been, which is why booking a full day charter is best if you are serious about catching fish.

Feel free to come up on the bridge and relax with the captain. Jesse has lived on the North Shore his whole life, and most of that time has been spent on the water. After getting his captain’s license soon after graduating from high school, he ran boats part time for other people always hoping to have a full time job fishing in his back yard. Now he is at the wheel of a 42’ sport fisher full time, year round. It’s what he loves to do and the North Shore is where he wants to be. Still considered the “young buck” of Haleiwa Harbor, his enthusiasm and motivation to find and catch fish is second only to his customer service ethics. Which is why the boat is always clean, the tackle always works and customer always comes first.

But let's not forget the other half of the team. Some people call them deckhands, mates or crew. Their deckhands are professionals who fish for a living. Some have fished all over the world others have fished in Haleiwa for over 25 years. One thing is the same; they know their job and do it well.

A Very Nice Mahi!

Among fishermen, the North Shore is known for its schools of aggressive Mahi Mahi. When a school is located, the Jesse may choose to set up a "bait and switch" pattern. Some of the artificial lures are replaced with live/dead mackerel or strips of tuna. The scent and action of these tasty morsels will drive Mahi Mahi crazy. Get ready... “baiting” is so effective it often results in multiple hookups! Watching 4 or 5 huge Mahi Mahi come in and take a bait, get hooked then start jumping around behind the boat will make a fisherman out of anyone. But it gets ever better if a feisty Blue Marlin shows up and decides that a hooked Mahi Mahi would make a nice snack.

At the halfway point of the day, it’s time to start heading back towards the harbor. Sit back have a snack and enjoy the scenery. Flying fish, spinner dolphins, pilot whales can all be seen year round. December through April is prime Humpback whale season, so keep your cameras ready. Alcohol is permitted on board and a celebratory beer with lunch may be in order. But don't get too comfortable, the day isn't over until the last line is reeled in. It's not uncommon to find a fish or two on the way in, who knows one just might find us!

Upon returning to the harbor, get out your cameras and take photos with your catch. If you would like more information on having your fish mounted, Jesse will get you set up with a quality taxidermist.  The crew will gladly fillet some of the catch for you to take home. Ask about cooking and storage instructions if you don’t have a favorite recipe in mind.

With both full and half day fishing trips available, Foxy Lady can customize a day of deep sea fishing to suit your fishing desire, whether it’s looking for some action packed schools of Mahi Mahi, a fight with a giant Yellowfin Tuna, or perhaps a chance at a giant marlin. They will make sure that you are safe, comfortable and most of all, ready to Hang on to the Big One!
