Captains:

Joshua Lee Bunch has been fishing in Hawaii since 1989. He was raised in  Kailua-Kona, Hawaii and learned fishing from some of the worlds best captains.  Joshua has fishing experience from throughout the Pacific as well as North and South America.  His experience includes ultralight, fly fishing, line class world records and tournaments.  Joshua is the top producing Swordfish captain in Hawaii with the largest of the year three years in a row.  Joshua currently holds the Swordfish current Hawaii state record.  A true waterman, Joshua is also a surfer and avid freediving spear-fisherman who holds 15 club records.  Joshua is a young, motivated and passionate captain who's desire is to build lifelong friends and clients through hard work, humility and endless enthusiasm.

Owner and Captain Chuck Wilson has over 35 years experience fishing in California, Mexico, Cabo San Lucas, Texas and Hawaii.  Chuck and his wife Linda have won over a dozen tournaments.  Chuck is a retiring Fire Department Chief Officer who has devoted his life to the passions of helping others and big game fishing.  Customer service, and teaching others comes naturally for Chuck,  who was named the California Fire Instructor of the Year in 2007.  He values the total experience each and every client has when they step aboard FIRE HATT.  “To be able to share the amazing sealife, the beauty and vibrant blue color that these warm Hawaiian Kona waters have, is truly a privilege” says Chuck.

Both captains welcome families and beginners as well as the experienced angler.  Their passion is fishing and they are both happy to share their knowledge and skills with patience and enthusiasm.

Fish Disposition:  Joshua and Chuck believe in tag and release of Marlin and will release at the anglers request.  Fire Hatt can arrange to have your catch sized and mounted upon request without harm to the fish.  Table fish from other species can be cut on request and be picked up the following day after processing.  In Hawaii, and with high fuel costs, it is customary for the catch to be marketed and is part of the crew and boats income, thus some of the catch will be taken to market.  If you desire to keep your catch beyond table fare, a discounted market rate will apply.

Fire Hatt is truely a high class operation and Sportfish Hawaii is proud to represent the Fire Hatt in our fleet of charter boats. Please call or email us to book your trip, you will not be disappointed.
