Fishing Gear:  Because Marlin Grando is a tournament equipped boat that fishes around the state in major events, they carry a full set of Shimano Tiagras from 50 lb to 130 lb. Vinny asks you call ahead if you have some specific gear or line class requests, and he will even take you fly fishing if you pre-arrange it. The boat is also set up for bottom fishing and live baiting.  Bottom line: the boat is rigged for IGFA fishing.

Completely new again.  Marlin Grando underwent a complete overhaul in 2007-08, including the new Cummins engines, generator and complete rework of the entire interior and exterior.  It's basically a new boat again in excellent condition, and it has remained in first class condition. Marlin Brando is part of the Monkey Biz Sportfishing fleet which includes Monkey Biz I, Monkey Biz II, Marlin Brando and Foxy Lady.  The Monkey Biz fleet is meticulously maintained to the owners high standards by professional skippers and crew Vinny Maggio, Eric Demarco, Brian, Boyd and Shawn.
This machine has been designed, engineered, equipped and staffed for catching fish, the record speaks for itself. Captain Vinny, originally from Naples, Florida, has fished all his life and professionally since he moved to Hawaii in 1988. A ship fitter when he came to Hawaii, his last tour of duty in the US Navy was in Hawaii operating assault craft. Naturally, when his service days ended, he turned to the ocean to continue on with his passion and love of it as a career.

Vinny has been running boats for his entire tenure in Hawaii. Prior to securing his position as Captain of the Monkey Biz, Vinny operated his own charter business in Waianae in the 1990's with current crew members Brian and Shawn.  As the Monkey Biz owner expanded his fleet to include Monkey Biz II, Marlin Grando and Foxy Lady, Vinny moved to running the Marlin Grando and still works with crew members Brian and Shawn.  Because they have been fishing together for many years, they work in sync with each other, instinctively knowing what needs to happen on deck.

Skipper Vince Maggio of The Monkey Biz

A soft-spoken gentleman at times, Vinny is at a loss of words on why a charter guest should pick the Marlin Grando and spend a day with him. Perhaps it is this very quality that draws people to him, because he just keeps sticking to the fundamentals......a clean, well equipped boat operated by a courteous crew that knows how to fish. Bottom line......the customer experience is the most important factor on any charter.

The complete fishing experience.  Having a few years under his belt running boats "local style," Vinny came to survive by learning the waters and finding the fish. Now an accomplished tournament fisherman with all the gear to compete with the best in the world, Vinny has become a well rounded captain who loves to be on the water sharing his passion with others. He uses lures and baits effectively, and knows when it's time to switch. He is a master at live baiting.

A fish disposition policy like no other. Release anything if you like. All of the fish is yours if you want it.  As a courtesy, the crew will filet enough for a few meals.  If you would like to take more fish, you may take it whole, filet it yourself if you are skilled in fish cutting or work out an arrangement with the crew to filet it for you.  Whatever you would like to do with the fish, the crew will be happy to help you.

If you are looking for a fishing charter on a clean, comfortable boat complete with air-conditioning and all the toys, and you are looking to fish with a skipper that will show you a good time, consider the Marlin Grando. Sportfish Hawaii is proud to represent the Marlin Grando in our fleet of high-class charter boats. Please call or email us to book your trip.

Comments from Craig, who chartered the Marlin Grando:
"For what you did, and your recommendations of what boat to charter. I want to THANK YOU.......... The 'Marlin Grando' is a beautiful boat, I was very satisfied with it's accommodations, beauty, and how well kept it is. Vinny (the skipper) and his deck hand (Brian), work very well together, and were accommodating as well as social. I set out to catch tuna & mahi mahi, and that is what we game back to the pier with. I also very much enjoyed the sport of my day of fishing with Marlin Grando and her crew.  I will again use you, as well as this boat and her crew again. Can we make reservations for next year yet????????????????"

From Bill and Sheryl, who chartered the Marlin Grando

"Sheryl and I and our friends Chuck and Lisa from Indiana were on the Marlin Grando on Tuesday and we had a great time. Captains Vinny and Brian were professional and personable and made us saltwater fishing novices feel very at ease. The boat was very comfortable and was in pristine condition. We fished for both marlin and ono and caught three very nice ono. I would highly recommend the Marlin Grando and Vinny and Brian to anyone that wanted a first rate saltwater experience. Since we live in Hilo and are only a couple hours away, we are looking forward to fishing with Vinny and Brian many times in the future. Thank you for the recommendation."
