Pure Jackpot 99 Fishing Tournament Report

Report submitted by Alan Simcock, KBC member

The KBC "Pure Jackpot ‘99" was a first for the club, masterminded by club President Sonny Dalde. Sonny wanted an early tournament with no frills, no tee shirts, no tournament books, no banquet, few rules, but we did have a lovely queen – Kehau Souza. Sonny even included Aku and Kawakawa to give everyone a chance.

Sixty-two boats sped off from Keehi boat Harbor a 6:30am on April 24th all looking for that "big one". The action started early with a constant stream of hook ups keeping the Radio Angels – Ella & Marlene very busy. For a while it seemed that the only fish out there were Mahimahi with no big fish in sight.

While the Radio Angels were singing a wedding song for soon to be groom Elton Choy (KBC VP), Elton was busy on his "POLEKE" fighting a shibi. He missed his wedding song but the fish took the first place Ahi prize, that’s what I call "getting your priorities right." Congratulations Elton – hope your wife likes to fish.

Matt Kahapea on the "Ah Tina" was the first to call in a big fish, and it remained the biggest all day to win first place. Other big fish were hooked and fought, but just never made it into the boat. Buy lunchtime the fishing had slowed down a little but picked up again in the afternoon when many more boats managed to collect their pupus. The hookup ratio was excellent with 51 boats calling in "hanapaa." This was a fun tournament that brought up lots of fish and also brought together many friends with that common interest called "FISHING".
