aukai3.jpg (20768 bytes)

The "Aukai" - Hawaiian for "Marlin of the Sea" - this is Stu’s favorite lure and is the smallest one he makes at 1 1/4" in length. Stu has personally had strikes of every Hawaiian pelagic fish, such as Marlin, Mahi Mahi, Ono, Ahi, Aku, and Kawakawa. The Aukai is considered to be an all purpose lure, and is good on all rod positions except the short corner. It’s unique rounded front design puts up a puffing spray in front with a smooth flowing smoke trail behind, especially as it snakes down the front of a wave in a following sea. Recommended for use with side wings, the Aukai is a single skirt ring lure with great fish production. Comes in clear and blue, both with a pink leading edge.

joker3.jpg (41100 bytes)

The Joker - a close second in Stu’s arsenal, The Joker is a proven Marlin catcher. This is an oblong conical lure available plain or with inserts (Stu recommends the dichroic glass for maximum flash). Notice the interesting hand-made shape; it has a "fast" and a "slow" side, which causes it to run left and right under control as opposed to a rapid swimming action. The Joker is best on the riggers, but will also work well on the long corner as long as boat speed is less than 8.5 knots.  In smooth seas, you will be able to see a surface vibration while it's underwater. Then, as it breaks the surface there will be a "puff" (small water droplets in a tight ball around the lure), which is where the majority of the strikes will take place.   No eye comes in this head, and it features a single skirt ring as shown on the bottom photo.  Stu wants us to remind you the skirt eye placement is crucial.  The eyes of your skirt must be on the flat sides because it will give the appearance of a side-flopping fish. Measuring 2 3/4" in length, The Joker comes in clear, blue and blue/red.

ogie2.jpg (41432 bytes)

ogie3.jpg (42825 bytes)

The Ogie Ball - This 2 1/2" vibration lure has excellent controlled side to side action.  Similar to the 2 Lip, its unique design controls water flow around the contours creating unique vibrations and acoustics beneath the surface.  Best run on the long corner or the short rigger, this lure is extremely productive in flat water.  Although the Au Kai and the Joker are Stu's two favorite lures, he would not consider his lure pattern complete without an Ogie Ball.  One of Stu's personal designs, this lure has a special place in his heart and is hand-polished to shine, shine, shine!  Comes in clear with a wide range of inserts.

kaikai.jpg (104680 bytes)

The Kai Kai - a beautiful Hawaiian word that means "to lead, support, lift up, raise." Stu couldn’t have chosen a better name for such a stunning fish raiser. At 4 1/4", this lure runs best in the white water off the short corner. It will swim hard and splash all over, yet maintain adhesion with the water for most of its travel time. If you are looking to raise Marlin, bet on the Kai Kai. The odds will be in your favor. Comes in deep blue.

everred.jpg (53322 bytes)

The Ever-Reddy - Just like its name says, this catch ready, concave fronted lure was originally designed by the late Ian Thomas. Stu recommends iridescent glass inserts for great flash. Best run on the long corner or the short rigger, the Ever-Reddy is a Marlin Catching Machine. This 3 7/8" lure creates tons of splash and bubbles despite its smooth, fluid swimming motion. Marlin, who are known predators that seem to get jealous easily when competitors enter their domain, often strike this lure hot and heavy, with the first run peeling out line from an uncontrollable screaming reel. We hope you get the fish under control sooner or later, or you’ll be at the end of your spool. Comes in clear.

2lip.jpg (56145 bytes)

The 2-Lip - Just like the flower, it’s Stu’s play on words and does it sure play on a fish. This unique 2 7/16" design has a flared front and a ball in the middle which controls the water flow around the lure creating a unique underwater vibration noise that fish just can’t leave alone. You will be amazed when you study the motion, and if you run it in smooth water you will actually see the perfect pattern of water flow around it. The 2-lip can be run on any rod position, but Stu recommends the long corner or the short rigger for best results. Please be careful with this lure as the leading edge can break (i.e. please don’t drop it on the deck). If it breaks with a fish chomp, send us your story and we’ll replace it. Comes in clear.

Custom Lures - these beautiful works of art are for our repeat customers who know Stu’s lures are everything we claim they are and are looking for something they know nobody else will have in their bags or up their sleeves. Every bit as productive as the items featured above, these lures also make great gifts for the sportfishing maniac. The custom lures shown here have Opihi shell eyes, dichroic glass, and all kinds of bits and pieces (mostly natural) to tantalize both the angler and the fish.  The top photo is known as the Shigi (1 7/8" in length), and the bottom one is a modified Ogie Ball.  These lures take a lot longer to make, so naturally they cost a little more. Call us at (808)396-2607or e-mail us and describe what you’re looking for, and we’ll get you a quote ASAP.
