Winners will be as stated above. (One cash prize per vessel.) In the event of a tie, the first fish weighed will qualify.

WEIGHMASTER FEE: Approximately $2.00 per boat shall be included in the $10.00 Operating Expenses Fee.

QUALIFYING: Au (Billfish), Ahi, Mahimahi, Ono, Aku/Kawakawa, any size.

AWARDS: To follow day’s event.

FISHING TIMES: June 29, 2002, from 5:00a.m. to 3:00p.m. Vessels may depart to fishing areas immediately after checking in and fish box inspection. However, no one is to start fishing before 5:00a.m.

Any team that is observed fishing early shall be disqualified from competition. "Observed" shall consist of a documented sighting by two (2) other vessels.

TEAM: A team must consist of one (1) Department of Navy, Pearl Harbor area (Military or Civilian) employee and his crew. Charter vessels are permissible.

COST: Cost per boat is $100.00. Deposit for Prize Money: $100.00

*Operating Expenses Fee $ 10.00

Total $110.00

*Operating Expenses Fee covers Weighmaster fee, trophies, office supplies, posters, decals, leis, and photos. Any excess amount collected will be returned to participants in the form of Lucky Number Door Prizes.

WITHDRAWAL: Withdrawal for sea/ weather conditions, illness, mechanical failure is allowed up until the start of the tournament at 05:00 a.m. on June 29th. The $100.00 dollar deposit for prize money will be fully refunded. The $10.00 operating expenses fee will not be refunded. The Administrative Chairman is the sole point of contact for withdrawals and can be reached (PAGER 577-0648).

RADIOS: All tournament communications will be on CB radio, Channel 34. Check in will be at start of tournament and at 12 noon with Tournament Base, or relay message to another tournament boat.

BOAT LIMIT: Due to safety concerns, the tournament will be limited to the first 75 boats.

BACK-UP BOAT: This may be used as long as it’s for the same team and the Tournament Base is informed.

SMALL CRAFT WARNING: Tournament will be canceled if there is a marine warning (2 Flags).

(Note: If the majority of participating boats agree the waters are fishable, then the tournament will go on. (A reimbursement of $100.00 will be given to the team that feels the water conditions are unsafe.) The Team Captain is responsible to notify the Tournament Base of the decision not to participate prior to the start of the tournament.)

CHECK IN: All boats must check in at the Tournament Base (Waianae Harbor Master Office) prior to the start of the tournament. Check in shall commence at 4:00a.m. Additionally, all vessels shall report for icebox inspection prior to departure.

HOOK-UPS: Each team shall report to Tournament Base on CB Channel 34 all hook-ups and completed boating of each fish including species and estimated weight. Relays shall be made to the Tournament Base via another tournament boat if Tournament Base cannot be reached.

WEIGH-IN: Weigh-in will start at 3:00p.m. on June 29, 2002. The weigh-in line shall be terminated at 5:00p.m. The last team in line at 5:00 p.m. shall be the last team weighed. No other fish shall be weighed or recognized after the line is terminated.

SECURING: All boats must secure with Tournament Base at the end of the day. This is to ensure that all boats are accounted for.

TEAM CHANGES: Team members may be changed up to the time of the start of fishing. Tournament Base must be notified and additional team members must sign waivers.

AREA: Any area is permitted. All vessels must start from and return to the Waianae Small Boat Harbor. Fish hooked-up prior to 3:00p.m. must be reported to the Tournament Base, and must be weighed-in prior to the 5:00p.m. line termination with the tournament Weighmaster.

BAIT: The use of any bait is prohibited.

VALID CATCH: Bleeding of the fish is permissible. A mutilated fish, if recognizable, will be accepted as valid.

JUNGLE RULES APPLY: Nets, ordnance, bangsticks, (any firearm device) explosives and chemicals are prohibited.

VESSEL-VESSEL CONTACT: Any vessel observed making an unauthorized approach of another vessel shall be disqualified from competition.

GREEN STICK: The "Green Stick" with the bird is prohibited. Center riggers with a "bird" on the main line are permitted.

MISCELLANEOUS: The Tournament Board of Directors must receive all official protests in writing no later than 5:00p.m. on June 29, 2002.

CAPTAIN’S BRIEFING: All teams are required to have a senior team member in attendance at the Captain’s Briefing on Wednesday, June 19, 2002. The brief will be held at the Pearl Harbor Naval Shipyard, Building 2, Room 106 at 11:00a.m.

EMERGENCY ASSISTANCE: Requests for emergency assistance shall be made via normal emergency channels (VHF Channel 16/Cellular 911). Tournament Base shall be informed of all emergency situations including accidents, flooding, injuries, propulsion failures, man overboard, etc.

These rules and regulations establish the governing conduct of this tournament except by the decision of the Tournament Board of Directors. Decisions by the Board of Directors shall be final and binding.

WAIVER AND RELEASE

(Must Be Signed By All Team Members)

 

In consideration of this application being accepted, I/we the undersigned, intending to be legally bound for myself/ourselves, my/our heirs, executors and administrators, waive and release any and all rights and claims for damages I/we may have against Pearl Harbor Naval Shipyard and Intermediate Maintenance Facility, the Department of the Navy, the United States, or the State of Hawaii, their officials, employees, representatives, successors or assigns or anyone acting on their behalf. Such claims for damages to include but not to be limited to liability for death, personal injury or property damage of any kind or nature whatsoever arising out of or in the course of my/our participation in the Pearl Harbor Naval Shipyard and Intermediate Maintenance Facility Fishing Tournament, including related events such as the banquet and other events associated with the tournament. Furthermore, I/we agree to reimburse the Pearl Harbor Naval Shipyard and Intermediate Maintenance Facility Fishing Tournament for any and all attorney’s fees, court costs, and/or other expenses incurred by them as a result of any action, claims or suits arising out of or in connection with the Pearl Harbor Naval Shipyard and Intermediate Maintenance Facility Fishing Tournament.

This release and waiver extends to all claims of any kind or nature whatsoever, foreseen or unforeseen, known or unknown.

In further consideration of this application being accepted, I/we recognize that unexpected dangers may arise during the course of the Pearl Harbor Naval Shipyard and Intermediate Maintenance Facility Fishing Tournament and that my/our activities are such that they will not be subject to close monitoring during the duration of the event. I/we certify that I/we am/are physically fit to participate in this tournament and that my/our vessel and gear are in safe operational condition. By signing this waiver and release, I/we certify that we and our vessel are covered by a valid insurance policy covering injury to ourselves, others and property damage caused by me/us during the course of this event and related activities.
